The Briefing Notes in Economics has been published since November 1992 with the clear intention of providing a non-technical platform for the dissemination of economic research for a wide readership. A declared aim of the publication is to provide authors with a definitive response within 6 months of receiving their contribution.
Its unique research note style of publication (articles usually limited to 2,500 to 3,000 words) has made it particularly useful for use as a discussion instrument for instruction purposes. The very early issues of the Briefing Notes were used in undergraduate classroom settings only. Since around 1994 its circulation has grown to encompass academics, business leaders, civil servants, journalists and trade unionists.
Contributions are welcomed in all areas of economics although those with an empirical slant are usually preferred. Papers dealing with important policy issues of the day are especially sought.
